Various problems can cause the evaporator coil in your AC to freeze. For example, if your unit is suffering from airflow issues caused by a duct leak, clogged air filter or blocked air register, the return air might not be substantial enough to keep the coils warm and unfrozen. Likewise, dirty coils absorb heat less readily than clean ones, so they freeze more easily. If your refrigerant is leaking out, leaving inadequate levels in the unit, your AC will be unable to remove heat effectively and the coil will freeze.
If you think your evaporator coil is frozen, for whatever reason, shut off your thermostat and call the professionals at Duggan’s One Hour Heating and Cooling at 706-733-8703.
