A malfunctioning heat pump certainly isn’t fun for anyone! However, these things do happen – it’s important to be able to recognize the problems that may be plaguing your heat pump, so that you’re able to fix them in record time.
Here are a few of the most common heat pump problems:
- Your heat pump isn’t turning on. If your pump just isn’t turning on, this is likely indicative of an issue with your thermostat or your unit’s receiving power. In the event that your heat pump doesn’t turn on, check your main electrical panel to see if the circuit breaker has tripped, or if there’s any frayed wiring or a blown fuse. If this is the case, reset the unit’s circuits and fuses – this will likely fix the problem. If not, don’t try anything further (messing around with electrical issues is never a good idea!). Simply call in the professionals to see what the problem may be.
- Your heat pump is blowing cold air. If your heat pump is circulating wintry-cold air, don’t panic – there are a couple things to check for, here. First, look at your thermostat to make sure that it’s not set to a cooler setting than is desired. Second, check the refrigerant levels in your pump, while also checking for any refrigerant leaks.
- Your heat pump is making strange sounds. Is you heat pump making rattling or scratching sounds? This is probably the result of loose hardware within your pump, or a faulty motor bearing. In this case, it’s probably best to call a professional for assistance.
